Guided Tour of Hall's Old Town
The salt city of Hall is only 6 km away from Holiday Hotel Geisler. The 700-year-old city was more important and bigger in the Middle Ages than the provincial capital of Innsbruck is today. The rich salt deposits made the city flourish as early as the 13th century. In the 15th century, with the transfer of the ducal mint of the Southern Tyrol city of Merano, it gained even more importance.
The city’s historical centre is one of the most beautiful city squares in all of Austria, known in German as “Obere Stadtplatz”. Particularly worth seeing are the late-Gothic parish church St. Nikolaus, the city hall and the Magdalene chapel. Hall has received many awards for the successful revitalisation of its city centre.
Regularly scheduled tours are offered during the week:
Guided tour through the mediaeval Old Town, visit to the Obere Stadtplatz town square, the town hall, St. Nikolaus parish church, Magdalene chapel, and Stiftsplatz town square (tour lasts approximately 1 hour)
Mint and the Mint Tower Hall in Tirol
Visitors are lead through a European tale of coins that goes back half a millennium and experience the secrets of the mighty mint masters and their fascinating machines. In the 15th century, the ducal mint of the Southern Tyrol city of Merano was moved here, giving the city of Hall great importance. In Hall, the first silver coins (Taler) were minted; this is where the word “dollar” comes from.
After visiting the Hall mint, you can climb up the mint’s tower.
